23.9.20 -IMPORTANT School, Public Health England and Local Authority letter
Important information - 6pm Wednesday 23rd September
I am writing to inform you of a significant escalation in Covid-19 cases reported here in school over the last few days.
Following consultation with Public Health England and St Helens local authority late this afternoon, the decision has been made to close the school with immediate effect.
This decision was not taken lightly. The reason for the decision was a combination of lower staff levels compromising the safe running of the school and to reduce the risk of further transmission in the school. The decision will be kept under review but our current aim is to phase a return to school the week commencing 5th October 2020 or as early as is possible.
I share your frustration at such a decision; our students have come back willing and enthusiastic to learn, building new friendships and immersing themselves in everything that is Mill Green. The safety of all our students, staff and wider community is paramount however and I trust you will understand the reasoning behind this multi-agency decision.
Public Health England have substantiated that the school have taken all necessary control measures and acted appropriately, and that the outbreak follows rising numbers of cases across the region that has caused similar problems in other SEN schools.
A further review meeting will take place with Public Health on Monday 28th September, and we will be in touch to inform you of any outcomes.
Please ensure that your son/daughter remains at home, safe and well; should they develop any symptoms of Covid-19 then please arrange for testing to take place.
Any correspondence or queries please direct to the school email address and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
Thank you for your co-operation in this matter.
I am pleased to take this opportunity to welcome you to Mill Green School.
Our school provides a quality, safe and inclusive education for all our students that fosters a true sense of belonging. We enable our young people to fulfil their potential by providing an effective balance between academic study, vocational experience and opportunities to develop their life-skills.
All of this can only be achieved by our students, staff, parents and wider stakeholders working together in partnership to ensure Mill Green students are well prepared for lifelong learning and the world of work.
We hope that this website will provide information to our parents, prospective parents and to all interested in learning more about our school.
We look forward to welcoming you and your child to Mill Green; please feel free to come and look around at any time, it is always a pleasure to show you our school.
