Careers Education and student support is a well- established and highly valued aspect of the curriculum at Mill Green School.
The careers programme is designed to meet the needs of all students at Mill Green, and is differentiated and personalised to ensure progression through activities appropriate to each individuals’ stage of career learning, lifetime planning and development.
Careers is endemic throughout all aspects of life at Mill Green school via a robust Vocational curriculum supported by a highly successful Enterprise offer; accessed by every student regardless of their working pathway, level of attainment or ability. Careers focussed lessons form the basis of many functional aspects of the curriculum during which basic skills and understanding can be applied in real life situations and in so doing build resilience, problem solving and the life skills which are so crucial to our learners.
All learners are entitled to Careers education which meets professional standards of practice and which is person-centred, impartial and confidential. This offer is integrated into students’ experience of the wider curriculum and reinforced through strong partnerships with families, local and regional employers and a wide range of agencies and services involved in planning and supporting at the transition stages in a young person’s life. The programme will raise aspirations, challenge stereotyping and promote equality and diversity.
Through this person- centred approach learners are able to articulate their dreams and aspirations for their futures and adult life which is supported through their annual review of EHCP targets to inform settings as learners move into adulthood.
