Meet the Governors

The Governors of Mill Green School bring a wealth of expertise to the Governing Body โ€“ you will find an introduction to all of us below.

Sean Lenahan – Headteacher

I have had the privilege of being Headteacher of Mill Green School since April 2022. Mill Green is a vibrant, exciting, forward-thinking school where all staff strive for the best possible outcomes for the young people who attend our school.

Marie Quirkย ย ย ย ย ย ย Co-opted Governor (Chair)

I first became interested in being a Governor at Mill Green School after being a Governor at my childrenโ€™s school and realising that I could bring my experience of this and the knowledge from my work place to benefit Mill Green. I enjoy the challenges I face as a Governor, being involved in all aspects of the school and the changes implemented to push the school forward.

My hobbies are my family, books, cooking and Chelsea FC.

Stephen Laffertyย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย ย Parent Governor (Vice Chair)

I am a 49 year old father of two who lives locally. My eldest daughter attends Mill Green School. I have worked in a number of fields throughout my career, firstly in the music industry and then in the pub, restaurant and hospitality industry. I have ran my own businesses successfully over the past 20 years and have managed very large teams and large capital projects. I have always wanted to put my skills to use helping the local community and a Governor position at Mill Green will hopefully be beneficial to all.

William Bradburyย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Co-opted Governor

I was interested in becoming a Governor at Mill Green School as I have 40 yearsโ€™ experience of Special Education and wanted to bring some of this experience to help the school. I am also a parent of a deaf child which helped my understanding of the pupils and schoolโ€™s needs. I mostly enjoy supporting the school and staff in the day-to-day running of the school.

My hobbies include being a part of the Wigan Parish Church RSCM choir ,rugby league and cruising on the Cunard.

Paul Kellyย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Co-opted Governor

I have been keen for some time to make a more active contribution to young peoplesโ€™ education, opportunities and futures.ย  Having acted as an Enterprise Adviser for a secondary school in Manchester I found this very rewarding; the Enterprise Adviser Network is a national network that connects schools and colleges with employers and careers programme providers to work together to create meaningful encounters with the world of work for young people.

As Head of Business Development for a large international construction contractor my job involves providing support and advice with strategic business planning; cultivating positive relationships with Clients and partners alike; and developing proposals which highlight the unique selling points of my organisation.ย  I am keen to draw-on these skills to support Mill Green wherever possible.

Chris Martinย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Co-opted Governor

I was interested in becoming a Governor when my son started at Mill Green School and thought it would be a good way of getting to know how the school works for its pupils. I most enjoy getting to see what goes on behind the scenes into the running of the school and witness the dedication of the staff.

My hobbies include spending time watching Saints RFLC and Liverpool FC. I also enjoy hill walking and trying to keep myself fit!

Claire Lynchย ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  Staff Governor

I have been teaching now for 13 years, with 7 of those being spent at Mill Green School.ย  I thoroughly enjoy learning and experiencing new things alongside our wonderful students and am thrilled to be able to enhance my support of them and the school as a governor.ย  I wanted to become a governor to learn more about the everyday running of the school and how I could best support it outside of my teaching roles.ย ย I am looking forward to new challenges and helping the governing body to strive for even more opportunities for our learners to reach their full potential academically and in life.

In my spare time I enjoy baking, spending time with my family and finding new places to eat Afternoon tea.
